SUMMARY: A Medical language specialist transcribes dictation by physicians and other healthcare providers in order to document patient care. The associate will also be involved in the research of questions and in the education of others involved with patient care documentation.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities: An associate in this position is given transcription assignments that require a seasoned depth of knowledge in all medical and surgical specialties. Associates at this level are able to transcribe all work types for all medical and surgical specialties. Associates are able to resolve problems independently.

Required Education: High school diploma.

Required Experience: 3 years experience as a Medical Record Transcriptionist to include all work types, e.g., H&P, Consults, Operative Reports, Discharge Summaries, etc.

Required Competencies/Behaviors:

· Demonstrates extensive knowledge of medical transcription guidelines and practices.

· Produces quality transcription with a 98% accuracy rate.

· Must transcribe all work types at a productivity rate of 1,000 lines per day.

· Demonstrates proven skills in English usage, grammar, punctuation, style, and editing.

· Demonstrates the ability to use designated professional reference materials.

· Demonstrates computer skills using dictation and transcription equipment, and other equipment as specified.

· Works under pressure with time constraints.

· Demonstrates the ability to concentrate.

· Demonstrates listening skills.

· Demonstrates eye, hand, and auditory coordination.

· Maintain the privacy and confidentiality of protected health information.
